Wessex Secure Data Environment (SDE)
Introduction
{"type":"doc","content":[{"type":"paragraph","content":[{"type":"text","text":"The Wessex region has a population of just under 3 million and the SDE covers two Integrated Care Boards (ICBs) working with hundreds of partner organisations. The ICBs covered by the region are:"}]},{"type":"paragraph","content":[{"type":"text","text":"• Dorset"}]},{"type":"paragraph","content":[{"type":"text","text":"• Hampshire and Isle of Wight"}]},{"type":"paragraph","content":[{"type":"text","text":"The Wessex SDE is launching a pre-release platform to establish its secure technical infrastructure, built to the highest standards of safety and security of NHS data. During this phase we will finalise operational governance requirements with stakeholders and the public and undertake user testing."}]},{"type":"paragraph","content":[{"type":"text","text":"The pre-release platform will be available to a selected group of approved researchers as 'software as a service'. To ensure appropriate use, researchers will be required to obtain suitable governance approvals, including NHS Health Research Authority consent or equivalent legal and ethical authorisations. Interim SDE governance and quality assurance is provided by the Data Access Committee at University Hospital Southampton."}]},{"type":"paragraph","content":[{"type":"text","text":"Initially, the Wessex SDE will make available datasets compiled by University Hospital Southampton and the University of Southampton from previous academic and non-academic study work."}]},{"type":"paragraph","content":[{"type":"text","text":"The SDE is actively expanding its data coverage across the region with a number of complex datasets currently in development.
