Lay summary

In support of this national response, this project is undertaking the following areas of work. Sheffield Community Contact Tracers project was set up to determine if it was possible to recruit volunteers and train them to be contact tracers for cases of Covid-19 in order to provide a local workforce to find, tests, trace contacts and support cases and contacts while they were self isolating. It was set up at a time when there was no contact tracing being undertaken. Although it was unique in this country it follows a model recommended by the WHO and used in many other countries. The data will be used in the report of the pilot scheme of the Sheffield Community Contact Tracers (CCT) to provide background information on the amount of Covid19 during the study period in the community in which the scheme took place, and will inform the direction for future development and priorities of CCT across Sheffield.
