Acute Kidney Injury (AKI), defined as a sudden decline in renal function, is associated with significant illness in children including increased hospital admission and risk of death. Early detection and intervention are key to preventing further injury. Currently, little information exists regarding AKI in UK children. This will be a descriptive study of children aged less than 18 years who received an AKI alert between 2015 and 2018. It will describe important features of children who developed AKI during this time-period. We will also describe the AKI illness patterns for these children. This will be the largest UK report of AKI in children to date. Understanding this group of children and what happens to them will ultimately benefit patients by: - Understanding the course of AKI disease in UK children will help clinicians to counsel patients and families. - Highlighting risk factors for severe AKI and associated complications. This will allow us to develop effective strategies to prevent disease progression.
