Cause of death (COD) data in the UKRR is about 55% complete with the leading cause of death being cardiac disease and infections. Given such a large proportion of missing data, the proportions on different causes of death can substantially be affected by missing data. Linkage of the UK Renal Registry data with hospitalisation data in England and Wales has been performed and existing cause of death data can be validated against hospitalisation mortality data. For all kidney failure patients that died in 2018 in England and Wales, use the hospitalisation data to enhance cause of death in the UK Renal Registry. Understanding the causes of death can help formulate policies for addressing certain causes like infections. Highlighting variation between centres for different causes of death will help identify where change in clinical practise is needed.
