Lay summary
A Patient Safety Alert was issued by NHS England in June 2014. It laid out standards for identifying test results that warned of actual and potential Acute Kidney Injury (AKI). This was for all NHS trusts providing pathology services. The NHSE AKI algorithm (the set of instructions/rules a computer can be programmed to use to provide a result e.g., an alert) has not been reviewed since its implementation in 2015. This study will help the kidney community to understand how well the current AKI warning stage alerts system is doing and whether there is a need to review the methodology.
