Surveillance of COVID-19 infections is important for understanding the spread of infection amongst patients on renal replacement therapy (dialysis or transplant). The UK Renal Registry has been receiving weekly data from kidney centres about patients on renal replacement therapy who have COVID-19. Public Health England has received all positive test results, and these have been linked to patients on renal replacement therapy at the end of 2019 to provide a second data source. Comparing these two sources will allow us to better plan surveillance in the future. We will create a combined data set of patients with a positive COVID-19 result in either source. We will compare the clinical and demographic characteristics of patients by which source they appear in (both, UKRR only, PHE only). We will look at whether the timing of the tests is the same or different for patients appearing in both sources. The study will help us to compare the two sources of data to understand if they are better or worse than each other in aspects such as completeness and timeliness. This will help us to decide which source should be used for which purposes.
