According to the Health Survey for England, the number of people with (CKD) stages 3 - 5 is similar for men and women. Despite this, more men start dialysis than women and outcomes vary. This research questions if sex is associated with differences in pre dialysis Acute Kidney Injury (AKI), Renal Replacement Therapy (RRT) start, and death amongst patients with advanced Chromic Kidney Disease (CKD) receiving renal care. Patients: All CKD adult (over 18 years old) patients reported to the UKRR from centres that have a functioning AKI alerting system in place. The estimated number of patients with stages 4 and 5 CKD in the UKRR dataset is 15,000 in 2017, 15,500 in 2018, and 16,500 in 2019. Patients will be followed up from their first report to the UKRR until the following events: commencement of renal replacement therapy or death. This study will help benefit patients because general practitioners, nephrologists, and public health authorities will better understand gender inequalities.
