This study aims to understand how having had cancer is associated with people's overall health and quality of life. We will compare people who have had cancer with those who have not, looking at differences in physical health problems, mental health, lifestyle, and medication use. We will also examine how different health conditions tend to occur together in cancer survivors compared to people without any history of cancer. As cancer survival improves, there is growing need to understand the long-term health impacts of cancer and its treatment. The Our Future Health cohort provides a unique opportunity to examine overall health and wellbeing in cancer survivors through detailed questionnaire data alongside linked health records. This study will address important knowledge gaps about how cancer survivors differ from the general population in terms of physical and mental health, lifestyle behaviors, and patterns of other medical conditions. Understanding these differences will help to inform improvements in disease prevention and health care for cancer survivors.
This research will benefit the public by providing a comprehensive picture of how having had cancer in the past is associated with people's wellbeing. The findings will help: • Healthcare providers better understand and address the full range of health issues that cancer survivors face • Policy makers plan appropriate healthcare services for the growing population of cancer survivors • Patients and their families understand what to expect after cancer /cancer treatment •Researchers identify areas where new interventions might improve cancer survivors' quality of life. The study makes unique use of Our Future Health data to examine aspects of survivors' health that are difficult to measure through routine healthcare records.
