Lay summary

to understand the burden of repeat stroke in patients without an arrythmia diagnosis, the need/benefit for longer-term monitoring and the patient types that would benefit the most from longer-term monitoring.

Public benefit statement

The objective of this proposed WSIC analysis is to understand the burden of repeat stroke in patients without an arrythmia diagnosis, the need/benefit for longer-term monitoring and the patient types that would benefit the most from longer-term monitoring. This will be used to understand the effect of Implantable Loop Recorders against Holter Monitors for the diagnosis of AF. This will help to identify which patients should be given an ILR rather than a Holter monitor and when this should happen. Specifically, this project will investigate patients who get a diagnosis of AF post stroke, the number of diagnostic tests these patients undergo and the waiting time for a diagnosis and for medication.
