Public benefit statement

Data quality checks aim Patient data such as demographics, consultations, laboratory data, prescribing and other clinical information are commonly used in research studies. The aim of this study is to develop a methodological approach to assessing the quality of data. The analysis will take the form of reporting any mismatches, standardising values, reporting rates and patterns of missing values, and performing a descriptive analysis. Data quality is not a simple issue, and if the use of EHR, such as WSIC, is to become an accepted norm for medical research validated, systematic methods of EHR data quality assessment must be developed. The purpose of this study is to implement consistent and systematic methods to measure data quality and to develop and share best practices. The efforts to report some elements of WSIC data consistently in a few specific areas and adopting statistical methods of data quality assessment would enable a structured discourse and would contextualise assessment methodologies. The finding from this study may serve as a steppingstone towards the continued effort to improve data quality and transparency.
