Public benefit statement
• There is a gap in understanding what the risk profiles are and multimorbidity clustering of people with depression-related multimorbidity. This project will contribute the characterisation of depression-related multimorbidity in Northwest London, including for first time in the UK. • Provide insights into the effects of depression-related multimorbidity on unplanned care use; practical applications for local CCGs to identify priority areas to optimise services, and segment patient populations with specific interventions to reduce avoidable unplanned care and improve quality of care for these patients in Northwest London. • The risk prediction model can inform local healthcare planning using a patient-centred approach that considers the patients’ characteristics that predict different levels of need. In particular, this work can identify opportunities to for sub-groups of patients that may benefit from community-based public health interventions to manage their multimorbidity, for those with excess or avoidable emergency department use across Northwest London. • Novel and timely insights on the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on unplanned care use among multimorbid patients with depression, for future healthcare planning of secondary services that will improve longer-term care for patients with multimorbidity.
