The primary aim of this research is to develop a new set of models to produce predictions for important health and healthcare related events for patients.

This project has the potential to benefit patients at two distinct levels. Firstly, individual patients will be provided with improved care as our models will provide clinicians with improved predictions of the times to events of interest, such as death or hospital readmission, for any condition that has sufficient data to effectively train our neural network. Clinicians and patients will therefore be better informed, supporting their ability to make decisions to improve the quality of care for an individual. Secondly, our models may be able to uncover patterns in EHR data that identify otherwise unknown groups of patients that are regularly admitted to hospital. We could therefore improve service management, by accounting for their rates of admission and implementing services that would better meet the needs of such patients.
