Lay summary
Identifying and investigating health outcomes of young people with multiple disadvantage in Northwest London
Public benefit statement
The outcomes from our project will directly benefit patients in the following ways 1) Identifying young people aged 18-25 who are care leavers or have an allocated social worker or have a learning disability, stratified by North West London Borough, will enable local authorities to compare proportions of young people in need and use the information to advocate for appropriate resource allocation which could directly improve young people’s health outcomes. 2) We are working with the Bi-Borough head of service (Westminster and Kensington and Chelsea) that leads on a programme supporting vulnerable young adults. Identifying a population of young people that experience multiple disadvantage (homelessness, imprisonment, drug addiction, or severe mental illness) through the WSIC dataset , will enable us to in the future target these young people for additional support and early intervention. The aims of the targeted support for young people that experience multiple disadvantage would be to improve their health outcomes and experience by ensuring continuity in care, working in partnership to improve the social determinants of health and enabling easier access to care.
