Streptococcus pneumoniae is the leading cause of community-acquired pneumonia in the UK and Europe. However, the total burden of pneumococcal disease in the UK is underestimated. This study aims to explore the burden of CAP by mapping the pathway of care for patients and deriving the healthcare resource utilisation and associated costs in primary, secondary, and social care through retrospective analysis of the Discover dataset.
