Lay summary

We would like to estimate the number of people experiencing one or more types of disadvantage in Westminster who would benefit from the specialist services.

Public benefit statement

There is evidence that shows that people experiencing multiple disadvantage (defined as 3 or more of the five types of disadvantage: homelessness, mental health, substance misuse, domestic abuse and contact with the criminal justice system) are often excluded from mainstream services and they can struggle to have Page 5 of 23 their needs met. We would like to estimate the number of people experiencing one or more of these types of disadvantage in Westminster who would benefit from the specialist services currently being provided by WCC and/or partner organisations so that a case for continued funding of these services can be made. There are currently three projects running which work with different client groups: • Those aged 18-24 (the Specialist Team) • Change resistant drinkers (The Blue Light project) • A place-based project in Churchill gardens working with those who are experiencing multiple disadvantage. For this reason, knowing the number of people in different categories (such as those with alcohol misuse issues) would be helpful when thinking about how exactly these services should be configured.
