Lay summary

This research project focuses on understanding the impact of online General Practice services on patients in the UK.

Public benefit statement

This research project focuses on understanding the impact of online General Practice services on patients in the UK. The goal is to provide clear insights into how these digital healthcare options influence patient care and health outcomes. By examining the profiles and health utilization of patients who switch from traditional to online GP we aim to determine whether these digital services are effectively meeting their healthcare needs. This aspect of the research will help patients make more informed decisions about using online GP services, ensuring they choose the option that best suits their health requirements. In addition, our study will also shed light on the effects of online GP services on traditional GP practices. We're particularly interested in understanding how traditional GPs respond to the presence of digital alternatives. This is crucial because the introduction of online GP directly competes with traditional GPs for patients, which could either negatively or positively impact patients sticking with traditional GPs. Such examinations would allow us to look into the impact of patients in the whole healthcare system. Overall, our project aims to contribute valuable information to the ongoing development of healthcare policies. By providing a comprehensive analysis of both online and traditional GP services, our research will help in shaping strategies that enhance healthcare delivery across the UK, ultimately benefiting all patients by improving access to quality healthcare and fostering an environment where both digital and traditional healthcare models can thrive.
