Public benefit statement
This project aims to understand vaccination uptake in the Hammersmith & Fulham population and contributes towards Hammersmith and Fulham’s Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA) which is a statutory obligation for all local authorities to complete in accordance with the Department of Health and social care’s requirements. As part the JSNA, poor vaccination uptake has been identified as an area of need that should be addressed as Hammersmith and Fulham have currently lower uptake levels within this area. In order to address this, we require more robust up to date vaccination data so that we can then target areas and hence populations within the borough and target specific services to deliver vaccinations, which will in turn aid the increase in vaccination uptake and therefore protect the target population from the current increases that we are seeing in infectious disease, for example measles. This project will enable improved understanding of the services required for the local population, particularly among specific communities with identified low vaccination uptake. Specifically, this data will be used to fulfil a statutory obligation for local authorities, including the completion of an assessment of need for the Hammersmith & Fulham 0-19 year old population. In addition to fulfilling statutory obligations in terms of the reporting of data, by identifying areas of need within the Hammersmith & Fulham population in relation to vaccination uptake, new interventions can be developed, and pre-existing interventions can be tailored. This may include the tailoring and upscale of a pharmacy pilot project, currently planned for pharmacies within specific areas of the borough where vaccination uptake has been identified (with pre-existing data) as low. This will contribute to wider public health efforts in the borough through the reduction in the spread of illness, preventable with vaccines.
