Lay summary

The aim of this study is to provide a general overview of the treatment pathways for patients with cardiovascular disease and related conditions.

Public benefit statement

As a result, hypertension is a priority both nationally and locally for the Northwest London Integrated Care System. The Northwest London WSIC de-identified dataset provides a valuable opportunity to use electronic health record data to better understand patterns and trends in who has hypertension, and what treatments they receive. In this project we aim to use statistical analyses to understand those patterns and trends, with a view to supporting the identification of opportunities to improve the care patients receive, and ultimately to improve their health outcomes. For example, we hope to be able to describe groups of patients who are not currently receiving treatment, but who may benefit from some treatment such as drugs or lifestyle changes. This work also has the potential to contribute to the use of WSIC data for measurement over time, to monitor and inform improvement.
