Lay summary

The purpose of the research project is to test an algorithm for identifying people with early-stage T1D (presymptomatic in the general population), based on their electronic health records.

Public benefit statement

This project aims to provide an additional tool that helps identify the risk-level of the patient for T1D, using their electronic health records. The benefits to patients are therefore two-fold: 1) Increase the probability of detecting T1D before a patient develops diabetic ketoacidosis and hence enable managing the condition better in outcomes 2) Reduce the number of patients who would need to be screened to identify T1D patients.
