Public benefit statement
We aim to develop and validate the IMAA to improve the early diagnosis of cancer in general practice, using pancreatic and lung cancer as case studies. We will: adapt the US-developed virtual-human medical assistant for use in the UK. Explore the use of advanced methods in data analytics to identify patients at risk for early cancer. Develop methods to predict individual risk based on changes in symptoms and clinical data over time. Integrate the system into an NHS Integrated Care Board demonstrator. Validate the medical assistant's impact on supporting GP decision-making and reducing inequalities in time to diagnosis. Facilitate the entry of new commercial partners in the AI for cancer space into the NHS.
