Lay summary

Healthcare services for children and young people in Northwest London region, aged 8-18 years.

Public benefit statement

The findings will inform our evaluation of a new flagship service for acute mental health for CYP in NWL, which is being created at Chelsea and Westminster hospital. First, findings will characterise the anticipated service need and symptomology of the target population of children and young people, by characterising those who have used services for emergency, acute, primary care and community psychiatric care within previous years. Second, findings will provide insight to the perceived demand for the new services to be created, based on existing service performance indicators. Third, findings will provide baseline data from which to define and monitor changes on key performance outcomes, based on the existing service operations and routine data monitoring, which are anticipated to be affected by the newly created service. Overall, findings will inform our evaluation of how well the new service is designed, improves service capacity, and contributes to key performance indicators. The evaluation will promote scale up of the intervention to other NHS settings, which we will be leading on.
