Lay summary
The study will provide an overview of current prevalence and characteristics of young people that present to GPs and A&Es with self-harm, and how they are accessing healthcare and support in other settings.
Public benefit statement
This is a retrospective study of patients who are have presented with self-harm at GP and/or A&E settings. The main aim of the study will be to establish the prevalence of self-harm in male and female patients of 12 to 25 years of age registered in NWL, determine the prevalence of non-elective healthcare usage, secondary mental healthcare usage and whether they are in receipt of psychological interventions during the past year, and to study the feasibility of a pilot intervention in these patients, since these are at higher risk of committing suicide.
