Public benefit statement
The aim of the research is to provide information about characteristics that might influence how people living with dementia access health and social care services. Ideally everybody should have equal access to services, but we know that because people are different and the way they access services can be different. These differences, such as going to the GP more often, or having special services tailored to helping people navigate the health care system better, might mean some people are more likely to get better care. If we have more information about what kind of characteristics influence how people access services, and how much this might cost, this can help with health service planning. It can also help with improving access to care through ensuring early, appropriate engagement with groups that are more likely to present at emergency care, and designing special services to assist with their engagement with health and social care. It may also provide evidence for the benefits of improving access to primary care and if this means health care access becomes more equal, or not.
