Lay summary
This project analyses GNBSIs in NW London to identify infection sources, patient risk factors and pre‑infection care patterns, supporting ICB action to reduce disproportionately high rates.
Public benefit statement
GNBSIs have a serious impact on patients, leading to hospital admissions, severe illness, and death. The case fatality rates for GNBSIs are significant: 14.5% for E. coli, 19.1% for Klebsiella spp., and 24.7% for Pseudomonas spp. In England during 2023–24, this equated to over 6,000 deaths within 30 days of an E. coli bloodstream infection diagnosis, more than 2,400 deaths following Klebsiella infections, and over 1,000 deaths after Pseudomonas infections.
