Lay summary
Use WSIC/OneLondon data to improve understanding of lung screening uptake, identify inequalities and barriers to access, and support earlier lung cancer diagnosis through more effective, data-driven screening services
Public benefit statement
Academically, it will generate high-quality real-world evidence on lung cancer screening pathways, inequalities, and outcomes within London. This will support peer-reviewed publications and contribute to the wider evidence base on screening effectiveness and implementation. Professionally, the project will support the development of advanced analytical skills in handling large-scale linked healthcare datasets, including primary and secondary care integration. It will also strengthen collaboration between clinicians, analysts, and system leaders across London. Organisationally, the project will inform the development of the INSIGHT-Lung programme and support the strategic objectives of RM Partners, NHS England, and OneLondon. The outputs, including potential dashboards and reports, will provide actionable insights for commissioners and providers to improve service delivery, reduce duplication (e.g. unnecessary imaging), and optimise screening pathways. In addition, the project will help demonstrate the value of the OneLondon Secure Data Environment as a platform for integrated care analytics, supporting future investment and expansion of similar initiatives.
