Lay summary
The study has the following aims: Aim 1. To investigate the genetic cause of intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (ICP), the most common liver disorder of pregnancy, in women in the NIHR bioresource. ICP can cause problems with the health of the unborn baby, e.g. preterm birth and stillbirth, and affected women can have serious liver disease in later life. Aim 2. To find out whether ICP-associated genetic changes result in other liver diseases such as cirrhosis in affected women and their families. The combination of medical records and genomic data provides a powerful tool to address these aims.
