Summary

This linking dataset allows users to join up information in other Data First justice datasets. It does not itself contain information about people or their justice system interactions but acts as a lookup to identify which records in separate datasets refer to the same people. The MOJ Data First datasets currently covered are:

  • magistrates' court defendant
  • Crown Court defendant
  • prisoner custodial journey
  • probation
  • family court
  • civil court • offender assessments

Documentation

This linking dataset allows users to join up information in other Data First justice datasets. It does not itself contain information about people or their justice system interactions but acts as a lookup to identify which records in separate datasets refer to the same people.

The MOJ Data First datasets currently covered are:

  • magistrates' courts defendant (MACO)
  • Crown Court defendant (CRCO)
  • prisoner custodial journey (PRIS)
  • probation (PROB)
  • family court (FACO)
  • civil court
  • offender assessments

It contains two tables: one acts as a lookup to group records together by person across all the datasets (xjs_link table), and the second acts as a lookup to link court cases between the Crown Court and the magistrates’ courts (mags_crown_journey table).

XJS Link file - This linking dataset allows users to join up information about people in Data First cross-justice system datasets. It acts as a lookup to identify which records in separate datasets refer to the same people.

Mags Crown Journey file - This linking dataset allows users to join up information about people in Data First cross-justice system datasets. It acts as a lookup to identify which records in separate datasets refer to the same people. This linking dataset allows users to join up information about cases in Data First magistrates' courts and Crown Court datasets. It acts as a lookup to identify which records refer to the same criminal case appearing in the two courts.

Access request cost

Data provision is free from SAIL. Overall project costing depends on the number of people that require access to the SAIL Gateway, the activities that SAIL needs to complete (e.g. loading non-standard datasets), data refreshes, analytical work required, disclosure control process, and special case technological requirements.

Access method category

TRE/SDE

Access service description

The SAIL Databank is powered by the UK Secure e-Research Platform (UKSeRP). Following approval through safeguard processes, access to project-specific data within the secure environment is permitted using two-factor authentication.
