The Health Data Research Gateway has been added to the portfolio of ELIXIR-UK Services. Led by Peter Harrison and Emily Jefferson at Health Data Research UK (HDR UK), the Gateway currently provides more than 43,000 annual users with a central portal for discovering and accessing health datasets across the UK, linking researchers to Trusted Research Environments (TREs) and secure compute environments.

CALL FOR ABSTRACTS. HDR UK are sponsoring a focussed Health session as part of the Bioinformatics in the UK track of ISMB 2025. Recognising that the UK hosts this year’s meeting, this one-day track on Monday 21st July is dedicated to showcasing the UK’s research, innovation and talent, and includes a dedicated poster reception and networking event in the evening. The health session will include keynotes from Emily Jefferson (CTO, HDR UK) on the UK health data landscape and Angela Wood (Professor of Health Data Science, University of Cambridge and Associate Director of the BHF Data Science Centre) on the COALESCE study. Abstracts are invited from researchers based across the four nations of the UK, from Academic or Industry researchers in either Research career paths (faculty, fellows, postdocs, postgraduates), or Technical Professional paths (including but not limited to data stewards, data scientists and Research Software Engineers). The first-ever HDR UK & ELIXIR-UK Joint Hackathon 2025 brought together technical professionals from across health data and life sciences for three days of collaboration, creativity, and problem-solving – driving forward solutions to shared challenges across the ecosystem.
